October 2022
Tall Pines Resort News is about information on what is happening on Nelson Lake and Tall Pines Resort. It provides a way for friends of Tall Pines Resort and customers that vacation on Nelson Lake to get up to date news about the lake.
About Nelson Lake on August 31st. it was approved to Draw Nelson Lake Down 2 feet instead of the drawdown of 4 feet that was approved for the 2020 2021 season.
The object was to open up new spawning beds for Walleye reproduction. The drawdown was to be complete by November 1st. Starting March 13th. the refill will begin and be hopefully completed to full elevation by April 15th.
In October at around the 10th. the drawdown for the 2022-2023 season was halted although the Nelson Lake was already down about a foot or better. The DNR wildlife rep was concerned about turtles, frogs, and other animals affected. There will be research done before the planned 2024-2025 drawdown. However, the DNR waters rep says we may need to remove another stop log soon as the need to increase the water flow below the dam which needs to be around 10cfs and currently is at 3cfs.
For stocking information in October 2021 29,312 extended growth Walleye Fingerlings were stocked at 5 different locations on Nelson Lake.
At this point the DNR has found the drawdown as unjustified we will have to wait for more evaluation.
